Arivaca Community Garden

The Arivaca Community Garden (ACG) began operating in 1998 on a ¼ acre of space at the end of Wedgford road, off of Ruby Road.  Since that time the garden site has grown to nearly six acres and a staff of five.  The ACG is a program of Project PPEP, a multi-service non-profit agency that was founded in 1967 to serve the rural areas of Arizona.

Today the ACG produces as much as 20,000 pounds of fresh certified organic produce a year, which is distributed to the communities of Arivaca, Amado, and Green Valley.  The produce is distributed to those in need by community food banks.  Produce from the garden is also distributed through a new Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program at the garden that began this spring. The CSA program has some of our young adults involved ~ give a click for the website of the youth of the Garden!

Vegetables and greens are grown in beds and in greenhouses.

Here, a local cow gazes longingly at the green world of the Garden!

While edibles are the focus, there's always room for flowers!

Programs sponsored by the ACG include a "work and learn" youth intern program, a series of food preservation workshops, satellite gardens at the Arivaca Community Center and the Amado Community Food Bank, and a summer youth scholarship program to Lonesome Oak Equestrian Camp.

Partners of the ACG in these programs include the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, the Arivaca Human Resources Coordinating Council, Pima County Parks and Recreation, Amado Community Food bank, and Green Valley Community Food Bank.

The ACG is pleased to provide high quality fresh produce to our friends and neighbors while encouraging activity and interaction centered around food and issues of agriculture and food security.

The ACG encourages involvement from the community and welcomes volunteer help. Volunteers to the garden receive vegetables at no charge for their contribution. Stop by for a visit and get your hands dirty with the staff!
